Portfolio Requirements
Composing your portfolio for enrollment.
The student’s portfolio is a strong determining factor to understanding the students level of competency. Students must follow the requirements precisely in order for the interview process to run smoothly, especially phone interviews.
Your eligibility for acceptance The Kubert School will be determined by two major factors: your initial ability and your attitude. Your portfolio will assess your capability; this will determine the your level of competency. However, determination and commitment are also deciding factors.
The following should be observed in organizing and presenting your portfolio:
*Portfolios must be presented digitally on a flash drive, CD or DVD. For Personal interviews, original artwork is recommended along with a digital copy. Portfolios should consist of no more than fifteen (15) and no less than ten (10) pieces of your artwork. Your choices should be the best and most representative examples of your artwork. No more than three pieces should be older than three years. The rest must be more current.
Specifications for Image Files:
All images should be submitted in JPEG format (*.jpg) and RGB color mode. We recommend creating files that are 72 pixels-per-inch (ppi) because a higher resolution does not add clarity when viewing images on a computer screen. If you are scanning your images, scan at a high resolution and scale down to 72 dpi. Your file size should not exceed 3.0 MB per image. Please include your full name in the file name.
*Your original artwork should be no larger than 11″ x 17″. Larger pieces (and sculpture, ceramics, murals, furniture, clothing, etc.) can be displayed as photos. You do not have to show originals -good quality photocopies are acceptable.
*Variety of subject matter, format, technique and media are encouraged. The Kubert School will consider examples of portraiture, life drawing, landscapes, still life’s, architectural plans, etc. We will also consider comic books, comic strips, gag cartoons, illustrations, ad layouts, storyboards, pencil tests, etc. Artwork done in pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, pastel, colored pencil, marker, oil paints, acrylic paint, airbrush, watercolor, gouache, etc. will be accepted.
*For a telephone interview, we will need your digital portfolio 2 weeks before the actual scheduled date. We request that you number each piece and include a sheet listing the various pieces by number and include a title, date of completion, media description, and subject description for each piece. Please include your name, address and phone number on this sheet, as well.
*Digital portfolios will not be returned unless a pre-paid envelope is enclosed.
